The description of SAS: Zombie Assault 4
Zombie shooting game in sci-fi setting! Fire in the hole! It’s going to be hot on the planet you visit with your extinction mission, so prepare to shoot them all! SAS: Zombie Assault 4 is a fantastic mobile shooter with spectacular graphics and lots of weapons and armor.
When we speak of zombie fight, we already get prepared for something cruel and senseless. When the setting features zombies, it doesn’t have to make sense at all, as the living dead are here just for extinction.
So it is now. Your character is a trooper sent to the exposed zone of a space station on a planet so far, where zombie infestation has been detected. You are here to shoot, stab, or explode all the living dead you see. They are numerous, and there’s always a boss among them. But you see the battlefield from above, and you can wipe them out from a distance with your guns and grenades. So you can win! Each victory brings you equipment upgrade you can use to get more protection and killing power.
In the beginning, you can select the class of your character: Medic, Assault, or Heavy. Each of them has their pros and cons, depending on what style you prefer. As you proceed, you can create a new character of another class, with another set of equipment.
The best part of the game is cooperative multiplayer with up to four players. The AI selects the team of about your level, so all of you can contribute equally. Class matters much more in multiplayer, so take care of all your characters.
If you like futuristic sci-fi entourage, you’ll be delighted with Zombie Assault 4. The game looks like a computer representation if a real battlefield seen from above, from a ceiling camera. It’s totally 2D, but it’s a feature, not a bug. Your character moves around the map you see in full range, as if you are controlling him remotely.
The appearance of an artificial environment on a planet far, far away is made almost perfectly. Not at all does it resemble modern 3D photorealistic representations. It’s rather a reference to old school games, bright, fantastic and inspired by B-movies with their untold charm.
General Impressions 8/10
It may be a long forgotten feeling to control your character on a 2D map with controls we’re used to see in a 3D environment, with two virtual joysticks. The left one controls your movements, and the right one defines the direction you shoot in. Not that it’s revolutionary new; it’s rather out of fashion. But this game is defiant, insolently old-school, so it’s a feature, not a bug.
Hardly will you enjoy replaying the game from the start, as you proceed even a bit further. New weapons, new enemies, new battlefields, and it’s all new. Luckily, your progress is saved in iCloud, so if you return to the game after a break, you’ll just start where you stopped.
Like most games of this sort, this one is available for free, but investments are necessary to speed up your progress.
If your best gaming experience took place in the early 2000s, you’ll certainly like SAS: Zombie Assault 4. It’s a rare retro-futuristic shooter, something like B-movies of the 1990s, thrashy, illogical and fun.07 Feb 2019
